Interview with Swan Point Medalist in College Golf

Christian Dolan has always been a strong competitor in the NCCGA. To prove this, he earned Medalist honors at the Capitol Regional 2.

Congrats on earning Medalist honors at Capitol Regional 2 Christian Dolan. How sweet is that new trophy?

-Thank you. Yea the new trophies are pretty awesome. The engravings are really nice as well.

You've been a strong performer in the Capitol Region for the past few seasons, what would you like to accomplish that you have not yet been able to?

-I've been playing pretty decent but I would really like to be individual medalist at Nationals and hopefully lead my team to a win as well.

What did you think of the course at Swan Point? Did it suit your eye well, or were you just playing well coming into the event?

-Swan Point was playing pretty tough. There were a lot of tough pin placements and not a lot of opportunities for birdie. With the wind up it felt a little like home(Long Island, New York). I didn't hit the ball well at all really, just had pretty consistent putting all weekend which kept me in it.

Take me through all 14 of your clubs. What's in your bag right now? Have there been any recent additions to the bag and what would you say is your most reliable/favorite club?

-Driver: Titleist 913 9.5 degree Tour AD Shaft X Stiff

3 wood: Titleist 909 F3 15 degree Proforce V2 Shaft X Stiff

Hybrid: Titleist 585H 17 degree Aldila NV Stiff

Irons: Titleist ZM Project X 6.5

Wedges: Titleist SM4 52 degree, 58 degree Project X 6.5

Putter: Titleist Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport 2

Ball: Prov1x

I just added the new wedges for my round Sunday that have less bounce that my old wedges. Felt like I had more control around the greens. My most reliable club is my driver.

What is your major/class standing/and background in the game of golf?

 - I'm a third year Economics major at UVA. I picked up the game of golf at 12, but didn't really commit to it until around the age of 15. I was always a baseball player but once I reached high school I turned to golf full-time. Out of high school I had offers from some D1 and D2 schools to play college golf but chose to go to UVA for the academics.

How were you able to overcome the 81 you shot in the first round? How good was that 75 on Sunday?

-Yea my 81 the first round wasn't very good. I struggled off the tee and around the greens. Sunday wasn't much better off the tee. I got off to a good start and was 2 under through 5 so I had some nice momentum in the beginning, but hit a few bad 3 woods off the tee that cost me. I just tried to keep it together and had to rely on my putting all day. It wasn't exactly how I wanted to play but I'm glad I was able to pull off the win.
