Results
The Nextgengolf summer tour events all vary in format to accommodate every type of player. Although we played a two-person scramble format, course conditions were tough, greens were fast, and Stonebridge provided a difficult challenge for our players since most of the player were playing the course blind.
Coming in first place with an even-par 72 was Andrew Spurr and Sean Madden from Umass Lowell. Both Sean and Andrew are avid players who are looking to start a club golf team at Umass Lowell for the fall. They had their first choice for the prizes of a free round with cart at Killington Country Club (a Nextgen Collegiate Course) or a Polo Ralph Lauren hat. Winning in a card off for 2nd place were Ryan Collins and Dominic McCann. They recorded a birdie on the number one handicap hole to capture 2nd place over two former Marines, Josh Patriquin and Justin Poitras from Umass Boston. Dom and Ryan did not know who they were stealing 2nd place from! Congrats to Ryan Collins on winning the long drive contest and Dan Beaulieu for his closest to the pin (6 feet on a 200 yard par 3)!

The Course
Stonebridge is a great track and well worth the hour drive from Boston since students can play there for $22 using Nextgen Collegiate. The mountain views from the elevated tees are great and the ball can really get flying with the high elevation. Chris, Nick, and Jason from the Stonebridge staff were very accommodating to our group and Bob did a great job getting us off the tee and keeping the pace of play steady following the #Whilewereyoung theme. The 4:25 pace of play was impressive.
The course layout was great given there were some challenging, long holes, as well as some short, target holes which really made you think. The scores would have been much lower if this was your second or third time playing the course given there are a number of difficult tee shots where you can get into trouble if you are hitting the wrong club off the tee. One of the signature holes was the 6th hole par three seen below which was a short pitching wedge to the green, but felt like Amen Corner when you were down there on the green. The greens were really the highlight of this course as they rolled very true and were fast. If you hit a putt on line, it was going in. I would highly suggest Stonebridge as a destination course for students looking to play a great track at a tremendous price using Nextgen Collegiate. We are excited to host another event at Stonebridge in the future and are looking at this venue as a NCCGA Regional Tournament course for the Northern New England Region.
Next Tournament
We will be taking a couple weeks off for the 4th of July before hosting our first and only 4 person event of the summer tour at Laurel View Country Club in Hampden, Connecticut on July 14th. The format is a 4-person scramble and costs $45 which includes a greens fee, cart, tee gifts, prizes and contests. Laurel View is a great track and the home course to the Quinnipiac Club Golf Team!
