Capitol Region Primed for Club Golf Season

The Capitol Region is poised for a very competitive club golf season. Defending champion Georgetown will look to defend its title against a full field. In addition to returning powerhouses Towson and Maryland, the field will be completed with Catholic University of America, Salisbury, and Loyola Maryland.

American Club Golf returns after a semester away, and will be led by seniors Joe Fagnani and Kevin Vernimb. George Washington, led by Zhenghao Lin, and Johns Hopkins, led by seniors Jihoon Hahn, Shin-Jae Lee, and Chris Coughlan, are looking to contend this year. In particular, according to club president James Walsh, American is “poised to make a run to the forefront of the Capitol Region.”

Worthington Manor Golf Club in Urbana, MD

The fall club golf tournaments will be played on October 3rd and 4th at Worthington Manor Golf Club, just outside of Frederick, MD, and on October 24th and 25th at Greystone Golf Course in White Hall, Maryland. This will be the first time the region will compete at Worthington, a perennial host of the U.S. Open Qualifier.

greystoneWidely considered one of the best course in the Mid-Atlantic and a previous winner of the Maryland Course of the Year Award, Worthington figures to provide a serious challenge and fun test to both the returning and new teams. Greystone, recently named one of Golfweek’s Top 50 Municipal Courses in the U.S., also figures to provide a fun challenge to every team as they vie for a bid to the National Championship at TPC San Antonio.
