Following a great weekend of club golf, NCCGA regional play for the fall season is complete in the Southeast Region, and a change at the top has been completed.
Despite darkness cutting Round 1 short for a handful of the field on Saturday at Greenwood Country Club in Greenwood, South Carolina, Sunday proved to be moving day for a good portion of players. The University of Georgia club golf team pulled out a 2nd straight regional title this weekend despite trailing Clemson University by 2 strokes following round 1. This comeback was enough for UGA to not only finish with a 10 stroke victory, but also to punch their ticket to nationals in November at TPC San Antonio.
The University of Clemson and the Golf Academy of America-Myrtle Beach club golf teams finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. UGA was led by Ethan Lambert with a two day total of 77-73-150 which earned him a solo 2nd place finish as well as All-Tournament Team honors. UGA also had 2 other players finish in the field’s All-Tournament team, Adam Davis (6th) with rounds of 77-77-154, and Nick Fernandez (T7th) 79-77-156. Medalist honors were taken by Eric Eaton of Golf Academy of America - Myrtle Beach with an impressive two day total of 73-74-147, good enough for a smooth 3 shot victory.
The remainder of the All-Tournament team was made up by David Weinberger of College of Charleston (76-75-151), Reid Smith and Spencer Magladry of Clemson with 74-78-152, and Tyler Holmes of Georgia Southern (78-78-156).
The Southeast proved to be full of competitive talent this season. Thank you to all players from all teams who competed and made this season one for the books. Good luck to the Georgia team at Nationals!
