The eyes of the entire NCCGA were trained on Locust, North Carolina this past weekend, as the North Carolina Region wrapped up its second regional tournament of the semester. The event represented the last regional of the Fall 2015 semester, and cemented the National Championship field. At stake was the last automatic bid, and a deep and competitive field all vying for the spot.
Similar to the first tournament three weeks ago, the South Carolina team ran away with the event and the region in route to gaining entry to the NCCGA National Championship. The Gamecocks Club Golf team finished with a team score of 767 (384-383). East Carolina finished in second, followed by the South Carolina B team in third. Red Bridge Golf Club served as host, and played tough due to a few difficult pin positions and rough weather during the event.
The Gamecocks Club Golf team was led by Bryan Grevey and Dillon Eaton, both +6 to lead the tournament as medalists. Michael Savitt of Duke finished third individually, followed by Jake Hutchinson of UNC Wilmington, and Robert Ferira of South Carolina.
Details on the Fall 2015 NCCGA National Championship
The South Carolina team found themselves playing in the North Carolina Region due to scheduling issues in the Southeast Region. They were happy to find a temporary home in North Carolina, and the growing club was able to participate.
Savitt, Hutchinson, Zac Lewis (NC State) earned individual bids to the NCCGA National Championship due to their performance in both regionals.
