The season is upon us and a select few college golfers are at the pinnacle of their respective golf games right now. We had an incredible weekend in the NCCGA that included a playoff with two players finishing under par and a slew of other good scores across the nation. Here are your winners for the weekend of March 1-2 for NCCGA Team and Player of the Week.
Player of the Week - Rhoades Sturkie / Georgia Tech
Shot 1-under (71-72) and won a 2-hole playoff with Clemson's Matt Barth in the Southeast Region. Sturkie opened with 35 on the front nine on both days of play. A double bogey on the final hole of the tournament pushed him into a first-place tie with Barth. He played the entire tournament at even par or under par and was a true force for Georgia Tech.
Team of the Week - Georgia Club Golf
Georgia brought home the title in the NCCGA Southeast Region's first Regional Tournament. Four players finished under 150 total, led by Ethan Lambert (71-73), who finished in sole possession of third place. Despite not having the medalist, the team finished at an impressive 19-over par for the tournament. This gives them a boost headed into the second Southeast Regional Tournament that is set to be held on the final weekend of the NCCGA Regular Season (April 12-13) at Cobb's Glen Country Club in Anderson, S.C.
Be sure to tweet out your nominees in the coming weeks for #TeamOfTheWeek and #PlayerOfTheWeek. Great playing, guys!
