Baylor Continues Dominant Run in Texas

To kick off the NCCGA Texas Region this Spring, 8 teams met in Houston, TX to compete in our first regional tournament. Eagle Pointe Golf Club & Recreation hosted the 36 hole stroke play event. The windy and wet par 71, 6900 yard course was a tough challenge for 57 of the best club golfers in the region. Tarleton State and UT-Austin both joined us from their first NCCGA Texas Tournaments.

After the first round of play, there was a logjam at the top of the leaderboard. Defending regional champs Baylor University led the way with a team score of 392. Dave Pytel (So) led the Bears and the tournament field with a nice round of 75. Oklahoma St. showed a lot of improvement from last semester, shooting a team score of 400. 5 teams fell within 17 strokes of the lead.

After a tough shotgun early Sunday morning, the Baylor Club Golf Team came out on top. They lengthened their lead over all the other teams, shooting a team score of 785. Texas A&M jumped from 4th to 2nd place under the leadership of veteran Anthony Sryko. He fired the low of the tournament, with a 3 over 74 on day 2. The Texas Longhorns, a new team to the region, played very well and finished 3rd, earning their programs first national qualifying points.

Baylor’s Ben Carrier (Sr) took home the individual medalist in his first ever NCCGA Tournament. The Fort Worth native fired consistent rounds of 76-75 to win by 3 shots over TCU’s Cole Bradford. 6 other players tied for 3rd place with a 36 hole total of 156.
