The scorecards are all turned in for the NCCGA North Region and the results are official. The 12 teams from 9 Universities met again this past weekend at Lake Arrowhead Golf Course. The teams struggled Saturday at the Lakes course as the prevailing winds refused to let up on the players. Connor Roche from University of Wisconsin-Madison (A) club golf team turned in the lowest score of the day of 75 (+3) helping his team to a slight lead after Saturday’s round.
Again the top three teams from tournament one: Milwaukee, Marquette and Madison were atop the leaderboards battling for the regional victory and the prestigious points that determine who qualifies for nationals.
The tournament resumed Sunday at the Pines Course featuring a cold but quiet morning. The wind had subsided and teams were eager to claim their #TrailToTPC. Several individuals got out a great start taking advantage of the favorable conditions compared to the previous round.
Highlighting the day was Tom Boockmeier of University of Wisconsin-Green Bay club golf who battled back with a one under, 71, to take medalist for the second tournament in a row. An additional highlight was Marquette’s Daniel Zurawski with his first hole-in-one on 16!
Team scores again were extremely close, this time leaving UW-Madison just a stroke shy of first place. Prevailing in the end was Marquette University club golf, with team leaders Patrick Lynch and Zach Woytych. The depth of Marquette brought this team not only its first tournament victory week one but also its first National’s bid following the second regional. They have officially earned their ticket to TPC San Antonio!
