What an awesome first day for the City Tour National Championship at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club! After some torrential rain passed through the Chicago area Friday afternoon/evening the Ravines and Dubsdread courses were ripe for some low first round scores. Ideal scoring conditions arrived Saturday morning, and remained throughout the day for the 14 teams from across the country competing to be crowned the inaugural City Tour Champions.
Team Slice and Dice took full advantage of playing the yet-to-be-dried-out Ravines course by firing a team total 131 (-13), highlighted by brothers Sean and Brian Keating shooting a best ball score of 64 (-8).
After the round Brian said, "We started off a little slow on the front nine, but we started throwing some darts into the greens and getting looks at birdie. Once they started dropping we had a really good back nine. We're thrilled to be here and hope to continue the good fortune tomorrow on Dubs[dread]."
Following closely behind Slice and Dice, is the other team from Cincinnati, Shooter Magowan with a 135 (-9). And currently in third is Tin Cup from Milwaukee in with a 139 (-5). Nick Heyrman commented that "they course played fair and challenging. We dug ourselves a bit of a hole but we'll try to come back strong tomorrow." Rounding out the Top 5 teams are Never Lay Up: 140 (-4), Oklahoma State: 141 (-3), and Baylor: 141 (-3).
It should be an extremely fun and exciting day tomorrow out at Cog Hill!
