The NCCGA Northeast started the season off at The Links at Hiawatha Landing on Saturday April 5.
The course was in great shape considering the weather in the weeks leading up to the tournament. The course was set up from the back tees with a yardage of 6500 yds and a rating of 71.6. The first day of the tournament proved to be quite difficult with temperatures below forty degrees Fahrenheit and winds blowing at twenty miles an hour.
The weather led to some pretty high scores and not a single person shot below 80. After the conclusion of the round Andy Burns from the University at Buffalo and Darren McCormack from SUNY Cortland were the individuals leading the field having both shot an 8 over 80. Four teams were in contention after the first round all within five strokes of the lead. SUNY Cortland held the lead shooting a 437 followed closely by SUNY Delhi with a 439, Syracuse University with a 441, and the University at Buffalo with a 442.
The second day proved to be much better conditions. The weather started off a bit cold but soon warmed up to around fifty degrees with not a single cloud in the sky. The greens were a bit faster on the second day giving some players a bit of trouble for the first couple holes. Many scores came in lower on the second day with many of them being in the 70s. The low score on the day was Kevin Crowell from Syracuse, who shot a 74 for a total of 160. It was not enough to take the lead from Andy who finished with a 77 to shot a total of 157 over the two days. SUNY Cortland was able to retain first place with a total score of 863. Syracuse was able to take second place with an 865. SUNY Delhi beat out the University at Buffalo in a Tiebreaker for third place with an 869.
