Q) What is your major, year in school, and what’s in the bag?
Ethan: I am a junior pre-med student majoring in biology here at UGA. My bag consists of:
Nike VR Driver
Taylor made R11 3 wood
Titleist CB 2 iron
Titleist 710 MB 3-PW
Mizuno wedges, 58 and 54 degrees
Scotty Cameron putter
Q) What is your background in golf, when did you first start playing?
Ethan: I started playing golf when I was 13 or 14. I first played a few local tournaments, and then moved up to bigger junior events in the Atlanta area and throughout Georgia. I played in the Georgia Open twice, a professional event, as an amateur. Right now I am playing club for fun, to stay relatively sharp for the big summer tournaments.
My initial goal was to play golf professionally, however that goal has changed to becoming a doctor. Oncology is an area of emphasis I may pursue, but that could change in the future.
Q) How did it feel coming out on top as the medalist in our first tournament?
Ethan: I had no idea what the competition level would be coming into the tournament. I just tried to minimize mistakes the second day. I liked the course because it was different than what I am used to. This was more of a placement course. You really needed to have control of your golf ball.
Q) How does your team practice?
Ethan: We practice two days a week at the UGA course. We try to get as many people out as possible. We usually chip, putt, hit range balls, and possibly play. I really enjoy the laid back atmosphere of club golf. I didn’t like being told what to do, how to play, or how to practice when I was playing golf at Shorter College before I transferred in to UGA.
Q) How did your team do qualifying for the first tournament?
Ethan: We all played 18 holes on one Sunday, and the top 8 went to the tournament. If you broke 160 and were in the top 20% of the tournament, you were given an exemption to Greenwood Country Club for the upcoming regional on October 26th and 27th.
Thanks a lot Ethan, looking forward to seeing you at Greenwood!
