Duke Club Golf President
"The NCCGA allows highly competitive golfers to still compete on a non-varsity golf. I was worried coming into school that I wouldn’t be able to still play in golf tournaments, but the NCCGA allows me to continue my passion for golf."

My name is Jose Mejia, I am a Senior at North Carolina State University studying Economics. Before transferring to NCSU I played in a top 50 D2, Belmont Abbey College, I really enjoyed the experience of high level competitive golf. Upon my arrival at state I joined the club and wanted to do my part in growing the game at the school. Since then I became both Club President and Regional Ambassador for the North Carolina Region! I am always exited to meet new players from all skills levels and will do what I can to help. I am excited for this season and hope to see some low scores!
History
The North Carolina regions boasts some of the top club golf teams in the country, and had its best and largest season to date in the Spring 2022. 12 schools were represented at the regional tournaments: Campbell, Davidson, Duke, East Carolina, Elon, High Point, NC State, UNC Chapel Hill, UNC Wilmington, Wake Forest (M), and Wake Forest (W). The region is home to one of only two all-women teams in the NCCGA at UNC. The region looks forward to building on its success, and welcoming all new students and teams. The North Carolina region has been in Zone 4 since the fall of 2017 for zone-based qualifying purposes. In the fall of 2017, Joey Funderberg (UNCW), Michael Savitt (Duke), and Nick Steward (NC ST) all earned individual invites to Las Vegas to represent their schools. In the spring of 2018, Michael Savitt earned another invitation and claimed a T2 finish with two great rounds in the 70s. This region was well represented at Nationals in the fall of 2018 with UNCW, UNC, and NC State qualifying. UNCW finished with a 4th place finish and a team score of 755 in the National Championship. UNC secured a T16 finished and a team score of 774. NC State placed 3rd in the National Invitational and finished with a team score of 789. As of more current results, in 2022 both High Point and NC State made their way to the National Championship where for the first time ever NC State became National Champions after beating UF in a team playoff.
