Tournament Report

Finally, the Great Lakes region plays a tournament that was not below freezing temperatures and whipping snow. The Great Lakes region played at Heritage Bluffs in Channahon IL, a premier public course that hosts many qualifiers for USGA events, most notable the United States Amateur tournament. A beautiful two day event with a high of 60 degrees and 5-10 mph winds made for some impressive scoring. With better weather comes better scores. The top 3 medalists were all within one shot of each other. Leading the field as solo medalist, Alex Duffy, from IL State (a) fired an impressive +3 total for the two day tournament on the 6600 yard track. Right behind Alex was Oliver Hodgetts (Northwestern) and Judson Bro (Bradley) firing a +4 and a +5 respectively over the two days. The all tournament team should be recognized as follows: Alex Duffy (IL State), Oliver Hodgetts (Northwestern), Judson Bro (Bradley), Adam Gracik (DePaul), Ken Jee (DePaul), Daniel Kallianis, Mikey Misheck (IL Wesleyan), and Shane Rene (DePaul). Congratulations to the players who made the all tournament team! As for the teams, DePaul edges the field with a total of 777 (387-390). DePaul was led by NCCGA Director of Tournaments very own Adam Gracik who put together a combined two day score of 151 (74-77). Right behind Adam was Ken Jee (153) and Shane Rene (156) who helped lead DePaul to both of its sub 400 day totals and its 43 stroke lead. Behind DePaul was a tough competitor IL State A who was led by tournament medalist and Freshman Alex Duffy! Contributing to IL States run was Hunter Simonini and Tyler Hietpas both firing 166 and 168 respectively. In third place was Bradley University led by Judson Bro and Ted Wick, who fired a 149 and 156. The Great Lakes region takes on Harborside International in the city this upcoming weekend as we compete back to back.
